Sixth Annual Jo’s Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook-Off

On Saturday February 4th, from 11:00a to 3:00p , Jo’s Coffee on S. Congress is hosting the 6th Annual Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook-Off, Two Steppin’ Competition and Benefit sponsored by Shiner. All proceeds benefit the Lila Tenenbown Recovery Fund. It is only $20 to taste all the chilis! Featured bands performing include Li’l Cap’n Travis, Chili Cold Blood, Chaparral and Woodsboss. Free two-stepping lessons at 11 am, dance contest at 12 pm, live music and chili tasting from 11 to 3. There will also be a bake sale by Katy Cupcakes and a silent auction. The Austin Burns Supper: A Night of Whisky and Rhyme

This February 4th, at 7pm, groups around the globe sit down to a time honored celebration to recognize the works and life of Scotland’s National Bard, Robert Burns. The evening, known as a Burns Supper, includes speeches, music, poems and dancing. One group in Austin will be celebrating at The Crowne Plaza. Of course, the main event is the meal! The haggis is brought in via piper and adulation with a hearty recitation of Burns’ Address to the Haggis. Delysia Wine and Chocolate Pairing

Austin Chocolate Festival

Attention chocolate lovers!! The 5th annual chocolate festival is right around the corner and will be better than ever. This year’s event will be heldOctober 15th and 16th at the Norris Conference center. Craft Brewers Festival

The Texas Craft Brewers Festival is back! It will take place on September 24th, from 2pm to 8pm at the historic Fiesta Gardens complex in East Austin. Beer and brewers from across Texas will be on-site for what is anticipated to be the largest annual celebration of craft beer in Texas. This non-profit outdoor festival, produced by the Young Men’s Business League and benefiting Austin Sunshine Camps, will feature Texas-brewed beer and ales (as well as non-alcoholic beverages), a commemorative tasting glass, live music, local food vendors, beer educational sessions, food and beer pairings, and a good time to be had by all at this beautiful venue on the banks of the Colorado River. Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival

Summertime in Austin just got a bit hotter!! Join the Austin Chronicle and the Capital Area Food Bank for one of the world’s largest hot sauce festivals.  Live music and a heated hot sauce competition make this a unique and fun event. Also, it is free to the public with a donation of three healthy non-perishable food items or a $3 cash donation to the Capital Area Food Bank . This Hot Sauce Festival draws upwards of 15,000 spectators every year! This year it will take place on Sunday, August 28 at Waterloo Park from 11:00am to 5:30pm. Patron Spirits Dinner at Jasper’s

Jasper’s at the Domain is always serving up wonderful food. They have several upcoming events, but the August 30th dinner really got our attention! Dessert for Dinner: An 8 Course Cupcake Tasting

On Tuesday July 26th at 6pm, Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop is happy to bring back Australia’s Sugadeaux Cupcakes for a guest baking stint in Austin. This will be a ‘Dessert for Dinner’, a sit-down tasting featuring eight courses of mini cupcakes. Mmmm sounds delicious! This private event will be hosted at the Volstead Lounge and you’ll be welcomed with a signature cocktail created especially for the the tasting. Austin Bakes for Japan

The country and people of Japan need our help! Come together for a great cause. The Pork Experiment

After hosting a series of highly-successful amateur cooking competitions in Brooklyn, NY, cook-off pros Nick Suarez and Theo Peck have decided to take their show on the road. Lucky for us, their first stop is Austin! On Sunday, March 13th, 20 home chefs will compete for an opportunity to advance to the National cook-off in Brooklyn. “2011: Caked Crusaders” Art Show & Cake Competition

Zinfandel Festival

On March 6th, The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas is hosting the Zinfandel Grand Tasting event at the AT&T Conference Center.  Attendees will have the opportunity to sample award-winning Zinfandels from over 35 wineries, meet with winemakers, learn about the history and versatility of the wine, and sample food created by Chef Jeff Watkins of The Carillon.  This is a one of a kind event that is great for novices and connoisseurs! Cannoli Joe’s “Chef Exposed” Demo

Want to do something fun on hump day? Cannoli Joe’s is hosting its next “Chef Exposed Cooking Demonstrations and Wine Pairings,” presented by Executive Chef Quirino “Q” Silva, on Wednesday, January 19th at the restaurant in South Austin.  Silva will choose four dishes of Italian cuisine for his classes, with wine pairings for each course. Wondering where to grab a reuben now that Katz’s Deli has closed its doors? On January 22nd, Manny’s Uptown Kitchen in the Arboretum is hosting the first ever Austin Restaurant Throwdown food competition. Taste of Austin 2011

It’s baaack! Taste of Austin is an annual event designed to showcase top local restaurants, caterers, and hotels. Enjoy samples from over 50 restaurants and discover what some of our finest eateries have to offer. Proceeds will benefit the Greater Austin Restaurant Association scholarship fund plus Austin area High School Culinary and Marketing programs. Greenling and Zhi Tea Gallery are hosting a local tea party on August 21st, from 6pm-9pm, so we can all indulge in the wisdom (zhi) of tea. The Market Wine Party

The Market at Steiner Ranch is hosting their monthly wine party Friday July 16th, from 5pm – 8pm. Clos La Chance Wine Dinner

On Tuesday, June 29th at 7pm, Z’Tejas is hosting an unforgettable evening of dinner, wine, and a special guest.  The chefs from Z’Tejas will be preparing a fabulous five-course menu, each paired with a wine.  Some exciting items on the menu include: duck breast with guajillo peach sauce, chili crusted beef tenderloin, chocolate truffle, and more! Texas Artisan Showcase

On Saturday, June 26th from 4pm – 8pm, come take part in a fun-filled, family-friendly event! This Artisan Showcase features beers, breads, cheese and charcuterie, coffee, tea and more. Austin Wine & Music Festival

A unique celebration featuring local wineries, breweries, musicians, artisans, and vendors. From May 29th – 31st, this 3-day festival will take place on the lovely grounds of The Domain. Foodies will enjoy having all of their senses engaged…from the aromas of chocolates and olive oils, to beautiful jewelery for sale, to live music in the background, and delicious wines and beers to sample. Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival

Craving some crawfish, jonesin for some jambalaya? Well you’re in luck! The 3rd annual Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival takes place May 28th – 29th and will have Louisiana-style live Zydeco music and food – yummy red beans and rice, boudin and some other Cajun favorites. For those of you who are afraid of crawfish, don’t worry because burgers and German sausage will be available. Other fun activities include a gumbo cook-off, arts and crafts, jumping castles, face painting and a rockwall for children. Texas Wine Wednesday

On May 5th from 5:30pm – 8pm, Spec’s at Arbor Walk will be having a huge wine and food event. Come sample 20 Texas Wines and lots of food items from Texas vendors and Spec’s kitchen. Ever wonder what 5,000 pounds of crawfish look like? Well here is your chance to find out. On April 10th, come out and enjoy a fun-filled day of Louisiana cuisine and music. Satisfy the Sweet Tooth In You

Ever wondered what happens when you combine Star Trek and desserts? Well, wonder no more! The 2010 Cake Odyssey “That Takes the Cake” sugar arts show and cake competition will take place February 27th and 28th at the Crockett Center. Come check out sci-fi and fantasy themed cakes decorated by all skill levels, from children to chefs. Guests can attend mini-classes and demonstrations to learn decorating techniques from world-renowned sugar artists. On Friday, February 19th, Rio’s Brazilian is hosting a potluck food event. Guests are asked to prepare a dish using locally grown ingredients, and the best dishes will be included in the Greenling Central Texas Seasonal cookbook. Rainforest Partnership Fundraiser

Alamo Drafthouse Iron Chef Event

Love watching those Iron Chef Challenges on the Food Network? Then don’t miss out on this local competition! The chefs at the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz will team up against the acclaimed kitchen of Parkside Austin, located just across the street. The film will be a classic: A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh. The premise is similar to the TV show but the secret ingredient in this battle is not foie gras, it is celluloid! Each contestant will deliver to the attendees a series of 4 dishes (that’s 8 dishes in all), and 4 wine courses will also be provided! At the end of the show, the audience will decide on the winner. Proceeds from this evening will benefit 6ixth Street Austin, a non-profit organization trying to preserve and enhance the district’s unique historic character and create a vibrant community. CASA Day at Phil’s Ice House and Amy’s Ice Cream

CASA is a local non-profit organization that advocates for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Eat Local Week 2009

Edible Austin’s Eat Local Week will kick-off on December 5th at the Austin Farmer’s market.  This goal of this fundraiser is to explore and celebrate the abundance of local food and to raise money for Urban Roots, a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people and to increase the accessibility of healthy food in Austin. Taste of the NFL Charity Event

Tokyo Steak House and Sushi Bar has joined efforts with E&J Gallo Winery to host this year’s “Taste of the NFL” (TNFL) fundraiser. The TNFL is a food and wine tasting event held the night before the Super Bowl in the game city, and supports hungry-related charities. Vertigo Burger Challenge

Want to be the next Kobayashi? Elevation Burger in the Arboretum is hosting its first eating competition.  Contestants will be tasked with the challenge of eating the famous Vertigo Burger, a ten-patty monster of organic, grass-fed beef and aged cheddar. During this challenge, each eater will also have to finish a basket of Elevation Burger’s famous olive-oil French fries! The first person to finish the Vertigo meal will receive free burgers for one year. Home Slice Carnival-O-Pizza

On December 5th, Home Slice Pizza on South Congress is having their annual funfest. There will be carnival-style booths, raffles, live music, performers and more! Austin Culinary Scholarship Fundraiser

The Austin Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier is holding an online auction to raise money for their culinary scholarships! This group is a world-wide philanthropic society of women leaders in the fields of food, fine beverage, and hospitality. The Austin Chapter consists of a group of chefs, winemakers, restaurateurs, writers, and others dedicated to giving back to their community. So far, there are 63 items and services to choose from and the auction and will end November 20th at 5pm. Lone Star Vegetarian Chili Cook-Off

The 21st Annual Lone Star Vegetarian Network Chili Cook-Off will be held on November 15th, 2009 at the Austin Farmer’s Market. Teams from across Texas will complete for the title of best tasting and healthiest vegetarian chili. The event is open to the public and free for children 5 and under, $3 for ages 6 to 12 and $7 for 13 and older. Koreana Destoyed By Fire

We are sad to report that one of our favorite Austin restaurants was destroyed yesterday. After 12 years, Koreana Sushi Grill & Bar sustained a devastating fire at 5:30am.  We will miss their Fiesta Roll and delicious Galbi. For more information on the fire, click here.
